Dropped, kicked, squished, stepped on, and scribbled on. Never played house, never played Momma. She declared that she wanted to be an only child again on the way home from the hospital (at 3.5 years old). But after the first couple of months, when her sister started smiling at her, when she started giggling it became fun.
I never had that "Mommy's helper" thing with her, cause she really had no interest in helping. But now, they get along MUCH better.
She was never mean to her sister, or abusive, but often ambivalent. She's not that way any more, and not that way towards HH. Both of my girls love their baby brother. They both have risen to the occasion of being a big sister.
I am sure the Boog will rise to the occasion too, it just might take some time.Moments Of Momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07125803464469304079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489059205830390615.post-21416690957469036852010-11-06T11:37:45.609-04:002010-11-06T11:37:45.609-04:00I'm really happy for you guys!!
The family I ...I'm really happy for you guys!!

The family I used to babysit for had an autisic son (so a lot of similar issues), and he was the middle child with close siblings on either side.

But his parents always said it was probably the best thing EVER for him (though they didn't plan it or even have suspicions about a diagnosis at the time), that he had a younger brother so close in age.

Having that close sibling made communicating, sharing, being flexible, etc, something he HAD to learn and was constantly challenged with in his every day life. As they got older, he rarely had friends over to play, but his brother did often so they all played together.

I don't think you need to be nervous at all. As you point out, it will be obvious to him that the "real" baby is not made of plastic and needs real milk and care--he will learn and respect, and if it's hard for him it's probably because it's challenging him in all the right ways.

:-)justadriennehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18352793325470030016noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489059205830390615.post-68094571834593057942010-11-05T02:52:16.259-04:002010-11-05T02:52:16.259-04:00I am sure he will rise to the occasion... even if ...I am sure he will rise to the occasion... even if it takes a little bit to get there. Carter could not have cared les about other people's babies. He's still mostly indifferent to anything that doesn't play back with him in some form. But he is ALL ABOUT Kara. I'm sure Boog will be the same.

And that they'll egg eachother on. Heh. Have fun with that!Kristen McDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11296480424009670097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489059205830390615.post-9641810867298439402010-11-04T20:55:12.057-04:002010-11-04T20:55:12.057-04:00<3 So happy for you guys!<3 So happy for you guys!Christyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06022444624156853041noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2489059205830390615.post-18066239521533792452010-11-04T20:53:27.835-04:002010-11-04T20:53:27.835-04:00so happy for you, and i bet he'll surprise you...so happy for you, and i bet he'll surprise you and he will be a great big brother!Angelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09886588781466890064noreply@blogger.com
